Breast Reduction (Lollipop)

Breast reduction removes excess breast tissue to bring the breasts to a size, shape and firmness that balances the body. It is used where weight causes neck, shoulder or back pain, where skin beneath a heavy breast develops eczema, or where size makes exercise and daily life uncomfortable.

Most reductions here use the vertical ('lollipop') technique, with the incision around the areola and straight down beneath it. The resulting scar becomes progressively less noticeable after six months.

A drain is sometimes left in place for around three days, and rest is advised until it is removed. Activities that use the arms heavily, and exercise, are limited for a period afterwards.
